MACA HONORS LOCAL ARTISTS

The 1st East Tennessee Plein Air began on September 13th. Artists registered and began their Plein Air Paint Out. The artist had only two days to work outside in the elements to produce the work they submitted. On Saturday, September 15, Monroe Area Council for the Arts held a reception and art show at Donna’s Old Town Cafe for its Visual Arts Alliance’s first annual East Tennessee Plein Air Paint Out.  The paintings were all produced in the previous two days at sites across the Monroe area. Pat Armstrong, Executive Director of Etowah Arts, served as the art show judge.  Cash prizes were supported in part by Simmons Bank.  The first place prize of $250 was awarded to Chris Ingram of Athens; the second place prize of $150 went to Susan Santillo of Vonore; and the third place prize of $100 was awarded to Amber Patty of Sweetwater.  Mrs. Patty also won the People’s Choice award.

Most of the paintings from the Plein Air Paint Out will be included in the Visual Art Alliance display at the Madisonville Public Library after October 2. Some of the paintings are for sale. If you would like information on purchasing a painting please contact MACA at 423-442-3210.
